Maintaining and expanding your networks can be difficult in times of Covid-19 especially if you are a working mum. So I was all the more delighted yesterday to be able to attend the „Success Circle for Career Mums“ yesterday. It’s a virtual networking meeting by women for women! The format always includes a keynote speech followed by virtual networking and discussion between the participants.
Yesterday’s keynote speaker was the inspiring Adela Mehic-Dzanic, a female tech leader, who gave us an insight into how she successfully built her network and how she now maintains and expands it now that she is a mother. One way she does it through her podcast, „Making it in Austria,“ which she created herself. Here are her five top tips for establishing your own sustainable network:
Get out of your comfort zone and try new things – because „this is where the magic happens“.
Tell your personal story
Post and be active on social media to increase your visibility. This doesn’t just mean giving the odd like or congratulatory message – posting something yourself on a relevant topic is the way to go!
Only then can others support you and build a relationship with you and connect you with the right people.
„You don’t have to walk alone“ – find supporters because
I couldn’t agree more with what Adela said yesterday:
„When people come together, things start happening.“
My conclusion
Anyone can build a good and extensive network, wheter you are introverted or extroverted: you just have to be brave enough to do it. The most important thing is to have self-confidence and work with acquaintances, friends and colleagues.
If you are lacking like-minded people, there are some really great internal & external mentoring programmes that are designed for that purpose. Where can you find this information? Online, of course, in various other media, or among your family and friends, naturally. Ask for recommendations! As the saying goes:
„Talking brings people together!“
In conclusion, it was an inspiring evening with many amazing powerful women and informative networking opportunities. When we support each other and don’t see it as a competition, we are stronger, regardless of our gender identity. #TogetherWeAreStronger
